Terms of Use
Effective 22 October 2026
1. What SciSens is
SciSens is an interactive science teaching toolkit that teachers use in class on laptops, desktops, projectors, TVs, smart boards or shared screens. It supports teaching and does not replace teachers, textbooks or laboratories.
2. Who may use it
- SciSens is for teachers and school staff only. Students may not be given accounts or logins.
- Accounts are created by SciSens on invitation. You must be at least 18 and authorised by your school to use it.
- Each account is for one person. You may not share your login or let others use your account.
- You must give accurate details and keep your password secret. You are responsible for all activity under your account.
3. Our rights in SciSens
SciSens, including all simulations, designs, text, graphics, code, the SciSens name and logo, belongs to us. We give you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable right to use SciSens for teaching in your school during your plan. You get no other rights.
You may not:
- copy, resell, sublicense, rent or share SciSens or any simulation;
- record, scrape, download or republish simulations outside normal classroom use;
- reverse engineer, decompile or try to extract the source code;
- remove or change any notices, names or logos;
- build a competing product using SciSens content;
- use SciSens unlawfully, or interfere with its security or operation;
- use the SciSens name or logo without our written permission.
4. Your content and feedback
You keep ownership of anything you send us. You give us a free, worldwide right to use feedback, suggestions and ideas to improve SciSens, without owing you anything.
5. Suspension and termination
We may suspend or end any account or school plan, with or without notice, if we believe these Terms are broken, fees are unpaid, or there is a security or legal risk. Suspending a school's plan also stops access for all of its teachers. You may stop using SciSens at any time. Sections that by nature should continue, such as ownership, disclaimers, liability and governing law, continue after termination.
6. Changes to SciSens
We may add, change, pause or remove features, simulations or the whole service at any time. We try to give notice of major changes but do not promise any particular feature or release date.
7. Availability and accuracy
SciSens is provided "as is" and "as available". We try to keep it running and accurate, but we do not promise that it will be uninterrupted, error-free or suitable for every curriculum, board or exam. Simulations are teaching aids. They simplify real science and do not replace your professional judgement, your textbook or hands-on laboratory work. You are responsible for how you use them in class.
8. Your responsibility
You and your school agree to compensate us for loss, claims and reasonable costs arising from your breach of these Terms, your misuse of SciSens, or details you gave us without permission.
9. Privacy
How we handle personal data is explained in our Privacy Policy, which forms part of these Terms.
10. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms. The date at the top shows the latest version. Continuing to use SciSens after a change means you accept it. If you do not accept, stop using SciSens.
11. General
- Assignment: we may transfer our rights and obligations under these Terms, including to a partnership or company that takes over SciSens. You may not transfer yours without our written consent.
- Entire agreement: these Terms, the Privacy Policy and any written agreement with your school are the whole agreement and replace earlier discussions.
- If a part is unenforceable, the rest still applies.
- No waiver: if we do not enforce a right straight away, we still can later.
- Events beyond our control such as outages, internet or power failures, or government action do not make us liable.
- Notices may be sent to the email on your account, or to support@scisens.app for us.
12. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of India. The courts in Kolkata, West Bengal have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute. Please contact us first at support@scisens.app so we can try to settle it informally.
13. Institutional Authority and Responsibility
13.1 Where SciSens is used under a school, coaching centre, or other institutional plan, the institution represents and warrants that the person accepting these Terms on its behalf is authorised to bind the institution to them.
13.2 The institution is responsible for ensuring that each staff member invited to use SciSens is authorised to do so and understands the applicable usage restrictions.
13.3 The institution shall maintain appropriate internal procedures for granting, reviewing, and withdrawing staff access, including when a staff member leaves the institution, changes responsibilities, or no longer requires access.
13.4 The institution shall promptly inform SciSens of any material change in its contact details, authorised representatives, billing information, or other information reasonably necessary to administer its account or plan.
13.5 An institution may not represent that it owns, operates, or has exclusive rights over SciSens, or make commitments on behalf of SciSens, unless expressly authorised in writing.
14. Acceptable Use and Prohibited Conduct
14.1 In addition to the restrictions in Section 3, you shall use SciSens only for lawful educational and administrative purposes expressly permitted under your applicable plan.
14.2 You shall not, and shall not knowingly permit any third party to:
- circumvent authentication, access restrictions, subscription limits, technical safeguards, or other security controls;
- use automated scripts, bots, crawlers, scraping tools, or similar methods to extract content or access the service at a scale or in a manner not authorised by SciSens;
- probe, scan, or test the vulnerability of SciSens systems without prior written permission;
- upload malicious code, attempt to disrupt the service, interfere with other users, or gain unauthorised access to accounts, systems, or data;
- impersonate another person, misrepresent institutional affiliation, or submit false information to obtain access;
- use SciSens to transmit unlawful, defamatory, fraudulent, infringing, abusive, or otherwise prohibited material;
- use the platform in a way that infringes another person's intellectual property, privacy, confidentiality, or other legal rights; or
- use SciSens or its content to train, develop, benchmark, or commercialise a competing product in a manner prohibited by applicable law or the intellectual property rights reserved under these Terms.
14.3 SciSens may investigate credible reports of misuse and take proportionate measures, including restricting access, preserving relevant records where lawful, requesting clarification, suspending affected accounts, or terminating access in accordance with these Terms and applicable law.
14.4 Nothing in this section prohibits activities that cannot lawfully be restricted by contract. Any permission to conduct security testing must be obtained in writing from SciSens before the testing begins.
15. Student Information and Personal Data
15.1 SciSens is intended for use by teachers and authorised school staff. Institutions must not create or permit student accounts where student accounts are not supported or permitted by SciSens.
15.2 Institutions shall avoid entering student names, contact details, photographs, educational records, health information, or other personally identifiable information into SciSens unless the relevant functionality supports such processing and the institution has a lawful basis and all required authorisations for doing so.
15.3 Each institution is responsible for determining whether its proposed use of SciSens involves personal data and for fulfilling the responsibilities applicable to it under relevant data-protection and education laws.
15.4 Where an institution supplies personal data to SciSens, it represents that it has the authority to do so and has provided any required notices and obtained any legally required permissions or consents.
15.5 SciSens shall handle personal data in accordance with its Privacy Policy and applicable law. Nothing in these Terms authorises either party to process personal data in a manner prohibited by law.
15.6 The parties shall reasonably cooperate, to the extent required by applicable law and within their respective responsibilities, in responding to valid requests concerning personal data, investigating relevant security incidents, and meeting applicable legal obligations.
15.7 Institutions must not use SciSens as a repository for sensitive student records, confidential assessments, or other high-risk personal information unless SciSens has expressly approved the relevant use in writing.
15.8 Where the nature of a proposed institutional deployment requires additional contractual safeguards, including a data-processing agreement, the parties shall execute an appropriate written agreement before commencing that processing.
16. Account Security and Security Incidents
16.1 You must take reasonable steps to protect your account credentials, devices, and access to SciSens, including using a strong password where applicable and avoiding unauthorised disclosure of credentials.
16.2 You must promptly notify SciSens at support@scisens.app if you become aware of suspected account compromise, unauthorised access, credential disclosure, or misuse of your institutional access.
16.3 You must not access another person's account or attempt to recover, change, or reset another person's credentials without proper authority.
16.4 SciSens may take reasonable technical or administrative measures to protect the service, including requiring authentication, invalidating compromised sessions, restricting suspicious activity, or temporarily disabling affected functionality.
16.5 No internet-connected service can be guaranteed to be entirely secure. SciSens does not guarantee that unauthorised access, cyberattacks, malware, or other security incidents will never occur. This does not exclude any security obligation or liability that applicable law does not permit SciSens to exclude.
16.6 Each party shall take reasonable steps within its control to limit the effects of a security incident and cooperate where reasonably necessary and legally required.
17. Third-Party Services and External Dependencies
17.1 SciSens may rely on third-party providers for hosting, authentication, communications, infrastructure, payment processing, analytics, or other supporting services.
17.2 The availability or performance of SciSens may be affected by the acts, omissions, outages, policy changes, or technical limitations of such providers and other external dependencies.
17.3 Where SciSens links to or integrates with a third-party service, that service may be governed by its own terms and privacy practices. SciSens does not control independent third-party services and is not responsible for their independent acts or omissions, except to the extent responsibility cannot lawfully be excluded.
17.4 SciSens may replace or modify third-party providers or technical dependencies where reasonably necessary for operational, security, commercial, or legal reasons. SciSens will make reasonable efforts to avoid material disruption where practicable.
17.5 Nothing in this section removes any obligation SciSens has under a separate written agreement or applicable law.
18. Devices, Connectivity, and Technical Requirements
18.1 You are responsible for providing and maintaining suitable devices, browsers, internet connectivity, power, and other equipment required to access SciSens.
18.2 You are responsible for ensuring that devices used to access SciSens are maintained in a reasonably secure condition and that their software and browsers are appropriately updated.
18.3 Performance may vary depending on device capability, browser compatibility, network quality, display resolution, local restrictions, and other technical conditions outside SciSens's reasonable control.
18.4 Unless expressly agreed in writing, SciSens is not responsible for the purchase, maintenance, repair, or configuration of an institution's devices, networks, projectors, smart boards, or other classroom equipment.
18.5 An institution should independently verify that SciSens works appropriately with its intended equipment and network environment before relying on it for a time-critical lesson, demonstration, or institutional activity.
19. Educational Content and Institutional Judgement
19.1 SciSens provides educational tools and simulations to support teaching. The platform is not a substitute for the professional judgement of teachers, prescribed curricula, textbooks, laboratory instruction, or official academic guidance.
19.2 Simulations may simplify, idealise, or model scientific phenomena for educational purposes. A simulation's behaviour, visual representation, or output may not reproduce every condition or complexity of a real-world experiment.
19.3 Teachers and institutions are responsible for determining whether a particular simulation, explanation, or resource is suitable for the intended students, lesson objectives, age group, curriculum, and assessment requirements.
19.4 Unless expressly stated in a separate written agreement, SciSens does not warrant that using the platform will produce any particular examination result, grade improvement, learning outcome, student engagement level, or institutional performance.
19.5 Institutions should independently verify critical scientific, curricular, and assessment information before relying on it for formal examinations, high-stakes assessments, or other consequential academic decisions.
19.6 To the extent permitted by law, SciSens shall not be responsible for decisions made by an institution or teacher solely on the basis of a simulation or educational resource without appropriate professional review.
20. Maintenance, Changes, and Temporary Restrictions
20.1 SciSens may perform maintenance, security updates, upgrades, repairs, or other operational work that temporarily affects access to the service.
20.2 Where reasonably practicable, SciSens will seek to schedule planned maintenance in a manner that minimises disruption and may provide advance notice of material interruptions.
20.3 SciSens may temporarily restrict access to all or part of the service without advance notice where reasonably necessary to address a security threat, serious technical fault, legal requirement, suspected misuse, or risk to users or systems.
20.4 SciSens does not guarantee uninterrupted availability, any particular uptime percentage, or that every feature will remain available at all times unless a separate written agreement expressly provides otherwise.
20.5 Where an institutional plan includes a specific service level, support commitment, or maintenance arrangement in a signed written agreement, that agreement shall govern the relevant commitment to the extent of any inconsistency with this section.
21. Support and Communications
21.1 SciSens may provide support through email or other channels made available from time to time. Unless a separate written agreement states otherwise, support is provided on a reasonable-efforts basis and is not subject to a guaranteed response or resolution time.
21.2 You must provide sufficient and accurate information to help SciSens investigate a support request. You should not send passwords, authentication secrets, unnecessary student data, or other sensitive information in support communications.
21.3 SciSens may communicate with the institution's designated contact regarding account administration, onboarding, access, billing, security, service changes, and other matters relating to the institutional plan.
21.4 You agree to receive service-related communications necessary to operate and administer your account or plan. Marketing communications, where sent, will be handled in accordance with applicable law and any relevant opt-out rights.
21.5 Institutions should keep their designated contact details current and ensure that relevant service and security notices are brought to the attention of the appropriate personnel.
22. Purchase Orders, Invoices, and Payment Disputes
22.1 Where an institution requires a purchase order, vendor registration, tax documentation, or other procurement procedure, the institution must inform SciSens of those requirements before the parties finalise the applicable written commercial arrangement.
22.2 Unless otherwise agreed in writing, an institution remains responsible for fees properly due under its accepted plan or written agreement. An internal delay in obtaining approval, processing a purchase order, or completing payment procedures does not by itself cancel an agreed payment obligation.
22.3 Any genuine invoice dispute should be notified to support@scisens.app in writing within a reasonable period, with sufficient details to identify the disputed amount and the reason for the dispute.
22.4 The parties shall make reasonable efforts to resolve a genuine invoice dispute promptly. Where legally permissible and appropriate, undisputed amounts shall remain payable in accordance with the agreed payment terms while the disputed amount is reviewed.
22.5 SciSens may restrict or suspend access for overdue amounts in accordance with Section 5 and any applicable written agreement, subject to applicable law and any agreed notice or cure period.
22.6 Nothing in this section permits SciSens to charge an amount that was not agreed or otherwise lawfully payable, or to disregard a valid statutory right or remedy.
23. Confidentiality and Non-Public Information
23.1 Each party may receive non-public information from the other in connection with an institutional demonstration, onboarding, support request, commercial discussion, or use of SciSens.
23.2 The receiving party shall use such information only for the purpose for which it was disclosed and shall take reasonable steps to prevent unauthorised disclosure.
23.3 Confidential information does not include information that the receiving party can demonstrate: (a) is or becomes publicly available without breach of an obligation; (b) was lawfully known to it without a confidentiality restriction; (c) was independently developed without use of the confidential information; or (d) was lawfully received from a third party without a duty of confidentiality.
23.4 A party may disclose confidential information where required by law, court order, or a competent authority, provided that, where legally permitted and reasonably practicable, it gives prior notice to the other party and limits disclosure to what is required.
23.5 This section does not authorise either party to disclose personal data in breach of applicable law or the Privacy Policy.
23.6 Confidentiality obligations under this section continue for three years after the relevant disclosure or termination of the applicable plan, whichever is later, except that trade secrets and information protected by law shall remain protected for as long as they retain that status under applicable law.
24. No Transfer of Ownership or Implied Rights
24.1 Except for the limited rights expressly granted under these Terms or a separate written agreement, no ownership, licence, or other intellectual property right is transferred to you by your use of SciSens.
24.2 No access, demonstration, trial, subscription, payment, or institutional relationship grants you an implied right to copy, distribute, modify, publish, commercialise, or create derivative works from SciSens or its simulations.
24.3 Any rights not expressly granted are reserved by SciSens or the relevant rights holder.
24.4 If a separate written agreement expressly grants additional rights, those rights shall apply only within the scope, duration, and conditions stated in that agreement.
25. Publicity and Use of Institutional Names
25.1 Neither party may use the other party's name, logo, trademarks, or identifiable branding in promotional materials, testimonials, case studies, or public announcements without the other party's prior written permission.
25.2 SciSens may request permission to identify an institution as a customer or reference institution. The institution is free to accept or decline such a request.
25.3 Nothing in this section prevents either party from making a disclosure required by law or a competent authority, subject to any applicable legal restrictions.
26. Claims, Complaints, and Cooperation
26.1 Each party shall promptly notify the other of a claim, complaint, or legal notice relating to the use of SciSens where the other party's reasonable cooperation is necessary to address it.
26.2 The parties shall cooperate reasonably and in good faith to investigate relevant facts, preserve material evidence where lawful, and resolve issues within their respective control.
26.3 An institution shall not make admissions, settle claims, or incur obligations on behalf of SciSens without SciSens's prior written authorisation.
26.4 SciSens shall not be required to accept responsibility for a claim merely because it concerns use of the platform. Responsibility shall be determined by the applicable facts, these Terms, any relevant written agreement, and applicable law.
26.5 This section does not prevent either party from seeking urgent legal relief or exercising a right that cannot lawfully be restricted.
27. Equitable and Other Legal Remedies
27.1 A breach or threatened breach of the intellectual property, access-control, confidentiality, or security provisions may cause harm that is not adequately remedied by monetary damages alone.
27.2 Subject to applicable law and the discretion of the competent court, SciSens may seek appropriate injunctive, interim, equitable, or other legal relief in addition to any other remedy available to it.
27.3 Nothing in this section guarantees that any particular remedy will be granted or limits the powers of a competent court.
28. Order of Precedence
28.1 If these Terms conflict with a separately signed written agreement between SciSens and an institution, the signed agreement shall prevail only in relation to the specific subject matter and extent of the conflict, unless that agreement expressly provides otherwise.
28.2 The Privacy Policy governs matters specifically concerning personal data to the extent it is consistent with applicable law and any valid data-processing agreement between the parties.
28.3 A quotation, invoice, purchase order, email, or other document shall not amend these Terms merely because it refers to SciSens. Any amendment must be agreed in the manner permitted under Section 10 or in a separately signed written agreement.
28.4 If an institution's standard procurement terms conflict with these Terms, those procurement terms shall not automatically amend these Terms unless SciSens expressly accepts the relevant amendment in writing.
29. Electronic Records and Electronic Acceptance
29.1 To the extent permitted by applicable law, these Terms may be accepted electronically, including through an acceptance checkbox, an electronic signature, an account-creation process, an invitation-acceptance process, or another clearly presented method of affirmative acceptance.
29.2 SciSens may maintain reasonable records of acceptance, account activity, plan selection, notices, and amendments for contractual administration, security, compliance, and dispute resolution, subject to applicable law and its Privacy Policy.
29.3 Electronic records and communications may be used as evidence to the extent permitted by applicable law. Nothing in this section removes any legal requirement concerning valid electronic signatures, admissibility, proof, notice, or consent.
29.4 SciSens will not treat mere browsing of a public page as acceptance of contractual obligations that legally require affirmative or otherwise valid acceptance.
30. Survival
30.1 Provisions which by their nature are intended to continue after expiry, suspension, or termination shall survive to the extent necessary to give them effect.
30.2 These may include provisions concerning outstanding payment obligations, intellectual property, permitted and prohibited use, confidentiality, personal data, disclaimers, liability limitations, indemnity, dispute resolution, and any accrued rights or obligations.
30.3 Survival does not extend an obligation beyond the period permitted by applicable law or beyond the period expressly specified in the relevant provision.
31. Payment Terms
31.1 The fees, billing cycle and payment schedule for an institution's plan are set out in the written quotation, order form or agreement that SciSens issues to that institution. This page does not publish prices.
31.2 Fees are payable in the currency and by the due date stated in the invoice or written agreement.
31.3 Unless stated otherwise in writing, fees exclude applicable taxes, including GST, which the institution shall pay in addition.
31.4 If an amount is overdue, SciSens may restrict or suspend access in accordance with Section 5 until it is paid, subject to Section 22 and applicable law.
31.5 SciSens may change fees for future renewal periods by giving reasonable advance notice. A change does not affect a period already paid for.
32. Limitation of Liability
32.1 To the maximum extent permitted by law, SciSens shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss, including loss of data, loss of teaching time, loss of goodwill or reputation, or loss of profit, arising from or connected with the use of, or inability to use, SciSens.
32.2 To the maximum extent permitted by law, the total liability of SciSens arising out of or relating to these Terms or the use of SciSens shall not exceed the amount actually paid by the relevant institution to SciSens in the twelve months before the event giving rise to the claim, or INR 5,000 where no fees have been paid.
32.3 Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits any liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited under the laws of India, including liability for fraud or wilful misconduct.
32.4 These limits apply whatever the form of the claim and reflect the allocation of risk that the institution accepts by using SciSens.
